Community Build is an exciting new concept for people who want to build their own homes as part of a group or community. Created by self-build facilitators Ecomotive, it acts as a matchmaking service between individuals, groups and landowners, allowing people to purchase building plots at more affordable prices and to access larger areas of land ideal for purpose-designed self-build communities.
And best of all, it’s all absolutely FREE!
Both individuals and groups can search for sites. Once you ‘join’ a site, you will have access to the site’s profile: its details, its status and how to contact the owner. This creates the perfect platform for self builders to get together, join one another, show interest in land, gain information on schemes, grants and loans, contact the owner, purchase land and start a COMMUNITY BUILD TOGETHER.
If you’re a landowner, an estate agent or have just spotted an interesting plot of land or building that’s for sale, you can upload the details here too.
Case Study: St Werburghs, Bristol
AVAG and Ashley Vale Self-Build Co-operative have turned 2.1 acres of concrete slab into a sustainable house-building project where people have built their own homes using predominantly low impact building materials. The site is not just about the sustainability of the materials - it is also the bigger picture. Apart from greening an inner city area there is a focus on quality of life too. The Yard is a pleasant place to live, and building your own home makes for a smaller mortgage, thereby improving quality of life. Sustainable living is also an element; for instance low car usage.
