Sustainable construction should lie at the heart of any plans for a sustainable community. The design and construction of new communities, or changes to elements of existing ones, is integral to achieving sustainable development. Construction of developments that meet the stated needs of those who will use them, provide employment for local people, stimulate the local economy, protect and enhance the natural environment, give due consideration to resource depletion and consider future changes can only be achieved through a full adoption of the principals of sustainable construction.
This CPD sets out to highlight the vitally important role of sustainable buildings/construction in achieving truly sustainable communities. From planning through to design, construction, operation and eventual demolition/disposal, sustainable construction is vital to the success or failure of creating sustainable communities.
Through examination of the component parts, outlined in the programme below, it is hoped that attendees will acquire an understanding of the inseparable nature of sustainable communities and sustainable construction.
